The Path To Zen
Everything You Need About NBC Series LIFE starring Damian Lewis & Sarah Shahi

Watch LIFE season 2 premiere online before it airs!

Only if you’re living in the US that is, but if that is the case you’re in luck : NBC will be debuting some of their new as well as returning series on their online streaming site Hulu sooner than the show will actually air !

While series considered to be the “biggest hits” will be first airing on NBC before finding their way online one day later (HEROES, THE OFFICE), many series will have their season/series premiere online first, as is the case with our very own LIFE : the season premiere will be available on Hulu.com Monday September 22nd, one full week before its airing Monday, September 29th at 10.00 on NBC.

So, if you’re one lucky US resident, time to update your calendar to catch the season 2 premiere of LIFE one week before it actually airs.

IMPORTANT! Please note that I have however no information when it comes to music : will it be the same as the episode that airs on NBC a week later, or will it be the infamous “rewind” version with alternative (cheaper) music selection ? Chances are the later, in fact it’s pretty much a given with NBC, so if you really want to fully enjoy the ride of your LIFE, you might wanna take a seat back and wait one more week.

Review of LIFE Season One DVDs

Here’s a nice review of the upcoming DVDs of the first season of LIFE by Chris Ball on Cleveland.com There’s never any mention about the music selection, but I wonder if people who review those DVDs are even aware of that fact, probably not. Sucks, not just because I think we deserve to know, but because the original music selection was so much better and made scenes so much more powerful, than it’s really not the same to watch either version.

Anyways, nice review, sadly it looks like what was liked then won’t be next season, I’m thinking of this for example : “Shahi exudes a powerful sexuality, which LIFE manages to utilize without seeming too obvious.” Yes, that was another good thing on the show, but seems NBC decided to make more obvious, I guess those guys are either blind, stupid, or both. My guess is both.

Paley Center to Preview Life Season 2 Premiere

It’s about time the NBC PR machine started cracking and they seemed to be doing it by sending its shows to as much special screenings as possible, Life included. Unlike The CW’s dubious move to hold back special screenings for 90210 NBC has included Life in the NYTVF Premiere Week and recently, Paley Center and TV Guide’s Fall Preview Party where new and returning shows are screened for public consumption.

Admission is free but registering in advance is a must.

USA TODAY talks about LIFE

A nice article from USA TODAY about LIFE and the challenges ahead of the show for its sophomore season, after a shortened season cut in the middle by the writers’ strike.

NBC’s LIFE is revived; but question is, can it thrive?
By Gary Strauss, USA TODAY

In life, one seldom gets a second chance. That’s the premise behind NBC’s LIFE, the cop drama that gets a second chance of sorts when its new season opens Sept. 29 (10 ET/PT).

NBC is giving viewers ample opportunity to sample the series after the writers’ strike cut its freshman run to 11 episodes. Three more shows air on Oct. 3, 6 and 10, when it rests in its Friday slot.

“NBC understands the difficulty of selling this show,” says creator Rand Ravich. “The first episode needs to serve as a pilot, as if you’ve never seen it.”

Indeed, new viewers may need a refresher course on the characters and complex back stories. British actor Damian Lewis (BAND OF BROTHERS) stars as Charlie Crews, an L.A. cop who is back on the force after serving 12 years for homicides he has been cleared of, and he’s tracking the conspirators who framed him. Crews emerges from prison as a Zen disciple, challenged by modern conveniences and partial to fast driving and fresh fruit.

LIFE Season 2 Promo 3 [VIDEO]

Here’s another promo video for the upcoming season of LIFE, and I kinda like this one. Dani’s new look is still there but we don’t get to really see her here, and it just feels more like the show…

Question: All promos seem to end with a “Fridays this fall”. Do you think people are aware the show actually returns on a Monday (September 29th) ? Since NBC decided to have the show air on both Mondays and Fridays for a couple of weeks, might be good to let people know about it too, no?

Variety about the importance of music in LIFE

Call it irony I guess, but soon after we confirmed that the DVDs for the first season of LIFE would not feature the original music selection but some replacements NBC felt more appropriate (read: were cheaper to use), comes an interesting piece in VARIETY about what? The importance of music and how it is used to tell stories and advance plots in shows like our very own LIFE !

This article reinforces one more time how despicable this whole thing is, and how much it hurts the show. Because on more than once occasion, the music on LIFE isn’t just a background noise, it’s so much more, it’s been carefully selected to make us feel a certain way, to convey certain feelings, to create a special atmosphere, and to replace those songs by others is simply to rewrite part of the episodes, it’s like NBC re-shot scenes to use a different actor because it was cheaper that way… disgusting is what it is.

Back on the music…

Crews: Oh, okay, okay you’re mad at me.
Reese: Mad, no I’m not mad. I mean I don’t even think there is a word for what I am. What you did to that husband, I kinda get, okay. I mean I guess I kinda get, but what you said to that wife…
Crews: I know. That one was me. It was my fault, I take responsibility. I wasn’t in the moment. If I’d stayed in the moment, if I’d stayed present, I would have been okay, but I didn’t. I was thinking about where we’re going next. So I left the moment just when I should have been completely in the moment, which is when people usually leave the moment, because the moment is just too much for. The moment is pretty much always too much, you know. I was thinking about where we’re gonna go next… — S01E01
