DVDs for the first season of LIFE are coming (art included)
Universal announced the upcoming release of the DVDs for the first season of NBC series LIFE, yay!!! The DVDs will be officially out on September 2, 2008 and are already available so you can pre-order the LIFE season one DVDs on Amazon right now !
From Rand Ravich (The Astronaut’s Wife) and Far Shariat (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind), LIFE is a new critically acclaimed drama about a detective who is given a second chance. Silly question : I was under the impression that we didn’t know how much Charlie got from his settlement. Everyone was guessing, we all knew it was a lot, but no numbers had been revealed so far, or am I wrong ? Anyways, now we know…
As you can see above on the right, the art is out and I have to say I don’t really like it that much, to be honest. There’s some positive to say about it :
- Damien Lewis is there, of course, but so is Sarah Shahi !
- We have our two cops, the car, and if you look close enough there’s even fruit in Charlie’s hand !
- That’s about it.
Really, that Sarah Shahi is on the cover makes me really happy, and I like that there’s a bit of the atmosphere of LIFE with the colors and L.A. in the background; Unfortunately :
- Sarah Shahi is on, but it seems they didn’t put her there because they realized how important to the show she was, and how the show isn’t as much about Charlie as it as become about the relationship between Crews & Reese, really. Let’s face it, they only put her there because she’s hot.
- Just look at her outfit !! When has Dani been wearing a tank top before ?? She never does, especially not when working. Just like she usually has her hair up all the time while she works, and that’s actually a really good thing. I’m sure they could have done a much better / closer to the actual tone of the show -job. Hell, I know I don’t have any art talent, but I’m sure there are plenty of fans/viewers who can do a better job !
So the art is disappointing, but we have a bigger picture here anyway :

All of that sounds pretty exciting to me, I can’t wait!! I’m really happy we get some commentary including creator Rand Ravich as well as both Damian Lewis & Sarah Shahi, especially for the pilot episode, as well as my favorite one (Dig A Hole).
My only concern would be about the music. As you know, NBC does those “rewind version” during which they replace some songs by others, because they cost less. As I’ve said before I find that to be a disgrace, especially given how the music on LIFE isn’t just fantastic but also carefully chosen, as it is a voice as important as any other on the show. I surely hope NBC/Universal wouldn’t have been stupid enough to include anything else but the original episode/music on the DVDs.
If you ask me it’s a bit silly to make us wait so long, but at least we’ll have about a month between the DVDs (September 2nd) and the season two premiere (October 3rd), giving people a chance to (re-)watch the full first season before heading into the second one.
