Kid: Is that a real gun ?

Dani: Hi. We’re looking for someone who knows…
Charlie: Boxes. Would that be you ?
John: Yeah, that… (He points to the sign above: let us box it for you.)
Charlie: Oh.
Dani: And you are?
John: John Armstrong.
Charlie: What can you put in a box, John ?
John: Whatever you want.
(Charlie puts a tiny fruit on the counter.)
John: What is that… exactly?
Charlie: Kumquat. Little gem of the citrus family. Got a box for that ?
John: Yeah. (He starts looking for a small box.)
Charlie: You’re sure? You don’t seem sure?
John: No, I’m, I’m… sure.
Dani: And what else can you put in a box ?
John: (Still looking for a small box.) Well, well we can box up anything you want really…
Charlie: In prison, I knew a guy who escaped by mailing himself out in a box.
John: Prison? Why were you in prison ?
Charlie: You got a box big enough for that, big enough to fit a man ?
John: Uh, I don’t understand.
Dani: Or a woman ?
John: Who are you people ?
Dani: Detectives, LAPD.
John: Detectives? He said he done time?

John: Um, look to be honest I don’t usually work the counter, so that’s…
Dani: What is it that you usually do ?

(He looks at her, she looks at him, and walks out of the elevator.)
Girl: Brandi would have liked you.
Crews: Yeah, why is that ?
Girl: Cause you seem kinda broken.
(Not sure where she saw that, but I loved Dani’s look at Charlie right there.)
Bartender: She had that Canadian thing, you know?
Reese: What would that be ?
Bartender: Happy for no reason.
Crews: I think my partner might not be familiar with that concept.
(Reese looks at him.)
Tidwell: I know all about you and your off the book investigations, conspiracy theories. Look I don’t know what was going on while I was still living in the United States, in new York City, but the only conspiracy I’m interested in is the possibility that my wife and girlfriend know about each other and are out to get me.
Crews: You want us to look into that?
(Talking about how all victims didn’t had anything in common.)
Tidwell: Three people chosen at random ?
Crews: Except nothing is random.
Reese: Oh, here we go…
Tidwell: And why is that ?

Crews: Funny what that bartender said, about Brandi being happy for no reason. You think it’s possible ?
Reese: To be happy for no reason ? I think I don’t want to think about that.
Crews: Yeah but to not think about it means you’re thinking about it. Because the “it” you’re not thinking about is the “it” that…
(Dani turns around and stares at him, shutting him up instantly.)

Reese: Okay now you’re just saying stuff!
Reese: Does everyone have a secret ?
Crews: You want to know mine ?
Reese: Which one ?
Crews: You know which one.
Reese: The one about my father. (Charlie nods.) The one about my father having something to do with, you going to prison for 12 years ?
Crews: Reese I’m pretty…
Reese: (Cutting him off:) Did I say I wanted to know ?
(Charlie, Dani and Tidwell are talking about the case, trying to find connections between victims.)
Tidwell: Kid had everything to live for.
Crews: What did you say ?
Tidwell: Yeah, I know. We all have everything to live for, right?
Crews: No. Not like this kid. And… (Looks at the board, starts to see something.)
Tidwell: (To Reese:) Is he going to walk out again ?
Crews: It’s not where they were, it’s not what they were, what if it’s what they were about to be.
Tidwell: Yeah, and what would that be ?
Crews: They were about to be happy !
Tidwell: Could you imagine spending time in a box like that ?
(Charlie stares at him and walks away.)
Reese: Nice!
Tidwell: Oh because of him being in…
Reese: Yeah!
Tidwell: He’s lucky to have you as a partner. I hope to have someone in my life like that some day.
Dany: What?!
Tidwell: What?
Crews: If you spend a lot of time in a small space, you know, like a cell… you get a feeling for the size of a room. How big or small it is.
